For this week I decided to take pictures of macro. My mom had to give us some early christmas presents this past weekend since we're going on a trip next week. Due to this she set up a mini Christmas tree on our kitchen table. I took close up pictures of the little lights on the Christmas tree. Here I learned that it's kind of hard to take pictures of light and lightbulbs because it's hard o get the camera to focus on it. It'd be easy if I wanted the whole picture to be in focus but I just wanted the front light and some of the tree, with all of the background blurry.

For this assignment we had to take self portraits of ourselves and of others. We were supposed to do something unique with these photos, whether it was just taking a cool picture or photoshopping yourself onto something else. I really like how all of mine turned out. I think I mixed in a lot of variety of different ideas. My favorite one is my FaceTime picture. Doing this assignment I learned that you can do a lot with photoshop and I also learned that I'm at the point where if I have an idea about something I can make it happen in photoshop.
This week I picked black and white. I thought these turned out pretty good. It took me a while to photoshop them all but I liked how they turned out. I obviously edited all of these to make them black and white. Here I learned that it's really easy to make these black and white but if you also change the levels then it makes the picture look a lot better.
For this assignment we had to make a collage out of multiple pictures of the same person in different places. The first one we had to find an area and take simple pictures of different poses from the person. The secnd one was the same sort of thing except we had to show motion in the collage. In this assignment I learned that ISO really does change a lot. I knew it made a difference, but I didn't know it was that big. I also learned that this was a lot easier than it looks to make.
This week I decided to do light painting. This was a challenge because it was my first time attempting this and it was a lot harder than I expected it to be. Down below were my best results. I took about 90 light painting pictures and the majority of them didn't turn out how I wanted them to. Doing these I learned that in order to get a good result, you need to do little and fast movement. If you use the light for too long, it'll become too dark and make it so you can't see your subject. If you don't move enough, you'll see your outline in the image.
In this assignment we needed to make collages by using layer mask and reveal/conceal. For the first one we did it of ourselves and what we like to do or who we are. For the second collage we had to make it of where we see ourselves in the future. In the last one our class had to make a collage out of specific flowers. That one was my first one, as you can definitely tell. In this assignment I learned that there are multiple different ways to do this. You could use layer mask and reveal/conceal or you could just use opacity and the eraser. This was a fun project because we had a lot of freedom with what we got to make our collages of.
This week I decided to do HDRs and it was rough. I took pictures in advanced because I forgot that these consisted of three photos put together into one, so I was already a day late to begin with. That day I took home a camera, extra batteries, and a tripod. However, as soon as I turned on the camera, the battery died. I didn't think this was a problem since I specifically brought home extra batteries for that reason. Then I realized I had the wrong batteries, so I couldn't take pictures for another night. So then last night I made sure I had everything I needed to take these that night. But, of course I left the tripod at my mom's house, so I used a bow for a tripod. This still made a couple of my HDRs turn out blurry, but at least I got them done finally. This week I learned to be more prepared. Even though I tried to prepare for ecerything, I still ended up not having things done. I should've thought ahead more and had them done when they were due.
This week we had open tutorials, so we could make whatever we wanted to. The only required one was a poloroid collage, which I made last year so I didn't have to for a second time. Next I made a water reflection that ended up pretty good. Then I spent three days trying to make an animation and when I thought I had it all perfect and put it all together, it didn't work at all like it was supposed to. I finished off making a quick rainbow edit on a picture to make up for the three days I waisted. Underneath my results I linked the tutorials I used. https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/square-photo-collage-photoshop/ https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/water-reflection/ https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/add-a-rainbow-to-a-photo-with-photoshop/ https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-create-an-animated-pixel-art-video-game-sprite-in-adobe-photoshop--cms-25363 What I learned here is that time is very important. The more time you put into something, the more you get out of it. This is why my results aren't the best, because I didn't spend too much time on them. However, I spent the most time on something that didn't end up working out, so maybe I should've tried spending more time on it to see if I could find a solution.
For this week's photo challenge I chose animal for the category. I took my cat Ozzy outside on my back deck and let him walk around while I took pictures. I tried to use framing as well as rule of thirds a lot in this picture Edited f/ 5.6 1/25 ISO 800 I liked this but it was a little bit hard. My cat wouldn't stop moving and it was hard to get a good shot with the outside lighting. I had to have taken 200 pictures of him before I got 10 that looked good.
This week we had to take 20 pictures of the same subject and turn them into panographics. These are basically the same thing as panoramics except they're more collage-like. We made a total of five and two of them we had to assemble by hand. Down below are the results. The first two are the ones I assembled by hand, which you can easily tell. I thought it would be easier to line everything up but it definitely wasn't. However, the automatic ones turned out worse. If I were to do this again I would take pictures of subjects with less going on in them so it would be easier to assemble, and I would stay away from lines in the pictures.
For this week I chose to do nature for my photo assignment. I chose this because over the summer I took pictures of the landscaping in Tennessee. I also took a couple of photos of the daisies that blossomed in my front yard. Overall I like how my photos turned out this week. Down below were my best results. edited f/ 8.0 1/500 ISO 400 I had a fun time taking these pictures. I made my dad stop driving about every two minutes for me to take a new picture of different landscaping.
For this assignment we had to take three different pictures of the same image, but with a different aperture. We then had to merge them all together in photoshop to supposedly make a higher quality picture. Then we had to change all of the settings to make the image look kind of weird/cool. Down below are my results. This was fun because we had the opportunity to experiment with what different effects and changes the settings did. We got to make some cool results including some that look half black and white, and some that look like paintings.
For this assignment we had to take 9 pictures of different collections that we have. I decided to do guitar picks and I also drew smiley faces on the white board that I decided to make a collage of. In this project I learned an easier way to make frames and collages. This project was fun for me and I hope we do something similar sometime again.
For these panoramics we had to get at least 5 pictures of the same area that overlap about 30%. Then we had to put them together in photoshop using photo merge. I ended up with these results.
This week we got to choose our topic so I chose product. I saw a bike outside on the bikerack and thought it would suit this category pretty good. I took a bunch of different photos from different angles of this bike. Edited f/ 4.5 1/1000 ISO 200 During this assignment I learned that different angles can either make or break a photo. some angles I took of this bike were just not good at all, and others were more appealing. From now on I'm going to pay more attention to whether or not I'm at a good angle or if there's a better one for what I'm trying to capture.
This week's category was color. Usually I'd be excited about this theme but the day we went out to take pictures it was really dark and rainy so it was hard to get a colorful shot. I still liked how my photos turned out. edited f/ 4.0 1/500 ISO 100 I liked this week's category overall because it was fun trying to find things that pop out. I also got back into the swing of editing photos on my own with my main picture.
For this assignment we had to create 4 different frames for our photos. This helped me get back into the swing of things after the long summer break. This went over numerous photoshop tools, so it was a good review for me. Down below are my products from the different frames I created. Gallery Frame Lasso Frame Gaussian Frame Spray Frame
For our first assignment of the trimester, we learned about all of the different priciples of design and took photos that fitted all of the categorites. I had fun with this assignment because it was very laid back and a simple way to freshen our minds before the rest of our upcoming assignments. My friends and I went to the football field to take some pictures so that was also a cool experience. However, I do wish we had a little bit more simpler categories, since some were a little bit hard to fulfill. Balance f/ 5.0 1/1000 ISO 200 Movement f/ 3.4 1/200 ISO 1000 Repetition and Rhythm f/ 3.4 1/30 ISO 320 Emphasis f/ 4.0 1/40 ISO 640 Simplicity f/ 4.0 1/30 ISO 800 Contrast f/ 5.0 1/1000 ISO 200 Proportion f/ 4.5 1/1000 ISO 200 Space f/5.6 1/1000 ISO 200 Unity
f/ 3.4 1/60 ISO 500 Hey guys! I'm back on this blog for digital photography 2. I know that nobody sees this blog but I'm going to continue talking like this just incase one day I get famous and people find this. I'm excited to see what this trimester has coming for me. I plan on taking my brother's senior pictures so hopefully I will have the skill to do so.
I'm definitely going to miss this class. This class was a great way to destress throughout my days, especially the harder ones. This class never failed to give me a good time and teach me tremendously. I remember opening photoshop for the first time and the only thing I knew how to do was to select things by clicking on them. Now, I could probably photoshop almost anything you ask me to. I also remember getting a D+ on my first test because I didn't know what the difference between shutter speed and aperture were. It's crazy to believe that just a few months ago I was walking around the school for the first time in this class taking pictures for composition practice which ended up turning out to be tinted and blurry. I know I've grown an insane amount as a photographer from this class. Between doing the more boring assignments to my favorites, everything was a learning experience. I learned to do all of my work to the best of my abilities, as well as don't wait until 11:30 pm on a Sunday night to take pictures that are due the next day. The biggest thing I took out of this class was that I'm capable of doing way more than I ever thought I would be. If I looked at some of the assignments I've completed at the beginning of this class, I wouldn't think that they were future me's. Down below are some beginning of the tri vs. end of the tri photos to complete my blog.
Favorite assignment This was for sure my favorite assignment, it was so much fun to make these puns. Least favorite assignment this assignment wasn't even that bad but it was just a little frustrating since I had to figure it out on my own and didn't know much about photoshop yet. Worst assignment this assignment was super fun but I've never before seen a photo that looks more fake than this one Best assignment
This assignment was super fun and I think it turned out very well. I think it's my best assignment. The dictionary portion of this assignment was pretty good. We had to pick a unique adjective and describe it using pictures and text that fit the adjective. For the first one I did "ravenous" which means extremely hungry and I described it using a little boy thinking about food, and an older guy who looks really hangry. For the second one I did "infinitesimal" which means extremely small, and described it using an atom, tiny objects (cookies), a mouse, and the OK emoji showing the little tiny space in between the fingers. This section was by far my favorite thing I did this trimester. We had to think of puns that we can make on photoshop using techniques we've learned in the past. It was fun coming up with puns and being able to create them in our image. Down below I made "cereal killer" with a box of cereal with a knife, "hawaiian punch" with a hawaiian girl with boxing gloves, and "dunkin donut" with a donut dunking a basketball. I was actually all of these things for halloween a couple of years ago which is how I came up with them. With this assignment I learned that I've learned a lot this year. Now I can almost perfectly use quick selection tool and a bunch of other tools in adobe photoshop. This has overall been my favorite assignment and I'm excited to now have the knowledge to photoshop at home.
For my last photo assignment I decided to do motion. For these pictures I used my brother dunking to capture motion mid air. I actually tried dunking after these were taken and ended up jamming my finger so that was unfortunate. I was kind of happy that this was my last photo assignment because I've always liked photoshop more than taking pictures, even though I know it's important to like both. f/2.8 1/60 ISO 200 unedited It was fun taking these pictures, even though I took them last minute. In my defense, I had intensions of taking them right after school but my brother wasn't home. Then we all went to dinner for almost 3 hours for trivia which I wouldn't say was a fun time. It was 9:45 by the time we got home and I could finally take these. Because it was so dark, I had my mom park her car at the bottom of the driveway with her headlights on for some lighting. Besides the darkness, another thing I would change about these is closing the garage. I noticed that it looked funky about half way through my taking photos. Other then that I think they turned out ok.
For this assignment we had to take two portrait photos of different people. One had to be in the studio and the other had to be somewhere else. The studio was set up in our Hornet Hub and I took the other photo outside against our brick school. We then had to open up the photos in photoshop and add them into one picture with white borders. Finally we added our name and we were done. This assignment was a little bit difficult for me. One reason is that my camera was being weird when I was taking the photos which made it difficult. Another reason is that we sort of had to figure the photoshop out ourselves, and I was messing up on how to do this, even though it was really easy. Overall I learned that I can do these sort or things myself if I keep trying and I prepared myself for our final photoshop, which will be the same sort of thing.
This week I chose black and white for my category. I wasn't sure what photos to go with so it was a little bit hard for me to choose. I ended up picking a couple of pictures I took earlier this year. This was the easiest topic so far because instead of having to capture multiple angles of one subject, I could capture one angle of multiple subjects. For example, down below I linked pictures of my sister, a parasail, glasses, a butterfly, a bird, and my cat, instead of multiple angles of just my sister, etc. edited to black and white f/5.0 1/8 ISO 800 One thing I would change about these pictures is that I would change the shutter speed to make my first photo more in focus instead of a little bit blurry. But at the same time, I kind of like the blurriness effect as it makes the image look more playful. I learned in photoshop how to easily change pictures from in color to black and white and I also cropped some of the pictures. Overall this was another fun assignment.
This week in digital photography has definitely been my favorite week so far this trimester. We had all week to create a bunch of photoshops that we got to chose. I looked up tutorials and followed them, getting pretty good results back. Some took me 20 minutes and others took me two class periods. Overall I had so much fun. Down below are my before and after photoshop pictures.
Doing this assignment I learned countless things. From changing the color to adding in a rainbow, I think it's safe to say I can find my way around adobe photoshop. One thing I would change though would be for me to pick different pictures to photoshop, like maybe some that are a little less blurry.
